Nitrous Oxide Instructions for your child

Lets You Stay in Control

What is Nitrous Oxide? Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”) is a colorless, slightly sweet-smelling gas that is blended with oxygen and administered through a nasal mask. For instance, it helps patients relax during their dental treatment. In addition, it may produce a feeling of giddiness. Similarly, sometimes children report dreaming and their arms and legs may feel tingly. Additionally, these nitrous oxide instructions will help you understand what your child will go through.

Is Nitrous Oxide Safe?

Yes, Nitrous oxide is one of the safest and most effective methods for slightly anxious patients. Nitrous oxide is not addictive and your child will remain awake but relaxed during the treatment. Its safety has been well-established, and the sedation effect wears off quickly (within 5 minutes) so there is no extended recovery time. It can be used for both children and adults.

We have Nitrous masks in different scents like Bubblegum, orangesicle, and Vanilla.

Prior to a Nitrous appointment: Give your child little or no food in the two hours preceding the dental visit (occasionally, nausea or vomiting occurs when a child has a full stomach). Tell your pediatric dentist about any respiratory condition that makes breathing through the nose difficult for your child, as it may limit the effectiveness of nitrous oxide/oxygen. Tell your dentist if your child is taking any medication on the day of the appointment. Tell your dentist if you are pregnant on the day of the appointment. There are no prolonged side effects when using Nitrous Oxide and normal activity can be resumed post-dental procedure. Check out more on Sedation General Anesthesia
