Get to Know Dr. Sage Yoo

Dr. Yoo may have gotten a late start in this field (in fact, he was one of the oldest students in his dental school classes), but he truly loves every minute of it – helping kids smile brighter is a definite passion for him! He also thinks pediatric dentists have much more fun on a daily basis than their general counterparts. To learn more about his background, keep reading below:

Why Did You Become a Pediatric Dentist?

As a Korean immigrant, Dr. Yoo didn’t have much access to quality dental care while growing up. In fact, he didn’t visit a dentist for the first time until he was 17! He studied electrical engineering in college and then worked as a mortgage banker until the market crashed. At the same time, his brother was working as a dentist in Hawaii, and hearing about the profession intrigued him. He chose to go back to dental school while also shadowing a few pediatric dentists. He saw how much they enjoyed their careers and decided that it sounded like his dream job – and he wasn’t wrong.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Yoo chose to pursue his doctorate at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston – he also completed his pediatric residency at the same school. He is proud to be Board-Certified through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry! As a Diplomate, he has proven his commitment to the specialty through rigorous examinations and the completion of extensive accredited training. He is currently a member of the following organizations:

  • American Dental Association

  • Texas Dental Association

  • American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry

  • Southwestern Society of Pediatric Dentistry

  • Greater Dallas Pediatric Dental Society

  • American Board of Pediatric Dentistry

  • College of Pediatric Dentists

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Yoo and his wife Heather have a daughter named Genevieve and hope to add to their family in the future. They also have a dog named Lucky (You), who is a miniature, Lassie-looking breed that’s smart enough to brush his own teeth. Whenever he’s not busy at work, he spends quality time with his loved ones, plays golf, and works around the house. They recently moved to a ranch house, and he really enjoys landscaping, mowing, and cutting trees around the property.
