Tooth pain can be caused by a number of different causes and often requires a clinical exam and possibly x-ray to find out the exact cause. For Temporary relief you may give your child Tylenol or Motrin (dosing based on the table on the back of the bottle and your child’s weight/age). Do not apply heat or any kind of OTC topical pain relievers directly to the affected area. Schedule an appointment immediately.

Swelling is usually an indication of infection. If you see swelling in the mouth or around the tooth, you should bring your child in as soon as possible. Any Facial or neck swelling, can be more serious and you should call us immediately.

First make sure that your child has no trauma to his/her head and neck area. If you suspect anything, please take them to the emergency room or call 911. Please bring your child in for Dr. Shir to evaluate the extend of the break. If possible, locate and save any broken tooth fragments. Call our office immediately.

This is the most time sensitive Emergency. If your child’s tooth is knocked out of the mouth, find the tooth, place in a cup of milk and immediately call our office and come to see Dr. Shir. If you act quickly, it’s possible to save the tooth.
